Somebody’s watchin you…
Here we have a private company conducting an independent study assessing the status of governmental surveillance in 52 countries around the world. The United States ranked sixth, preceded by China, North Korea, Belarus, Russia and the United Kingdom.
Number SIX folks. The means that the so-called “Sovereign” Americans of this “Free” country, who wave their Chinese made flags of “Liberty” around, are the SIXTH most spied upon people in the world.
Aaah so what, right? If we’re not doing anything wrong then why should we care if they watch us? Is that your argument? If so… REALLY?
So, since you are not doing anything wrong, can I drill a peep hole into your bedroom wall and watch you whenever I like? I’m assuming you will say “No!”. And so I ask you, why not? Because I don’t wear a fancy hat and proclaim myself as your “protector”? Are those who fit this description somehow more privy to the private details of your life than I am? What makes them so? Are they protecting you? And from what?
Folks if I created the thing for which you should fear, and then provided the solution to that thing, you’d let me put you under surveillance too, wouldn’t you?
What are you willing to give up in order for that false sense of safety?
Hmmm… well, before I go on, let me point out a few quips from the article linked below (in blue):
“We really don’t see how it is going to hurt us. Mass surveillance is certainly a new, odd, and perhaps an ominous thing, but we just don’t see a complete picture or a smoking gun,” the report continued. Also, “We are constantly surrounded with messages that say, ‘Only crazy people complain about the government.’”
Sadly, this is true. Most folks are okay with this seemingly benign surveillance because they do not truly understand what is happening here, nor have they firmly grasped the magnitude of just how deeply this infringes ones most basic human right to personal privacy. Moreover, it appears that most folks fail to see the illegality of this and how such surveillance ignores the American principle that we are “innocent until proven guilty”. This idea assumes we are all guilty and are under constant pressure to prove our own innocence. The burden of proof is now on us! There is a huge problem here folks!
Company spokesman Paul Rosenberg told WND the biggest obstacle, however, is that the image of a “police state” dredges up visions of Nazi Germany’s thugs breaking down doors in the middle of the night and hauling people off to blacked-out trains or Stalin’s USSR rounding up “offenders” for imprisonment. “That’s how things worked during your grandfather’s war – that is not how things work now,” the report said. “An electronic police state is quiet, even unseen. All of its legal actions are supported by abundant evidence. It looks pristine,” the report said.
See, that’s what happens… we all walk around in this zombie-sleep, while the strangulation of our liberty closes in on us slowly, inertly almost unnoticeable. Those of us who are suspicious of our government are seen as kooks and weirdos because everyone else doesn’t feel the pressure on their throat yet. This is how it happens. When you do wake up from your coma, you’ll see the chains upon your wrists and wonder how they got there. Well folks, this is how they get there.
“In an Electronic Police State, every surveillance camera recording, every e-mail you send, every Internet site you surf, every post you make, every check you write, every credit card swipe, every cell phone ping… are all criminal evidence, and they are held in searchable databases, for a long, long time,” the report said.
“Whoever holds this evidence can make you look very, very bad whenever they care enough to do so. You can be prosecuted whenever they feel like it – the evidence is already in their database,” the report continued. “Perhaps you trust that your ruler will only use his evidence archives to hurt bad people. Will you also trust his successor? Do you also trust all of his subordinates, every government worker and every policeman?
“If some leader behaves badly, will you really stand up to oppose him or her? Would you still do it if he had all the e-mails you sent when you were depressed? Or if she has records of every porn site you’ve ever surfed? Or if he knows every phone call you’ve ever made? Or if she knows everyone you’ve ever sent money to?”
Exactly!
