Preventative Detention = Tyrannical Rule
Much to the shock and disgust of Civil Libertarians and the “Left” in this country, Pres. Obama has not just embraced Pres. Bush’s ideas but has gone even further. And so I ask the Left in this country and every reasonable Democrat, how much more? how much more leeway will we give this President?. While it gives me some hope to see some outrage expressed from some corners on the Left, for the most part this is what I have found, “I trust him” “Even though, I think he’s wrong on the issue of preventative detention, I believe we need to help the president here” Let me put it in the mildest way possible; if this exact measure had been taking by Pres. Bush, or Pres. McCain, there would be universal outrage from the left in this country. Not just that, but the Right would be accusing the Left of treason for NOT supporting the War-time President in his effort to “protect” us. Haven’t we seen this movie before? Didn’t we see this movie in the past 8 years? How many more replays?. how many more assaults to the rule of Law do Americans need be exposed to in order to WAKE UP?!! Why do we just keep coming back for more of the same? Are we just institutionalized? Like abused victims who either, can’t leave their tormentor or they leave and continue to return for more? is this who we are as a nation?

“Prolonged Detention” “Indefinite Detention” “PREVENTIVE Detention” You know what this all sums up to? do you know what all these euphemisms stand for? a GULAG. OUR GOVERNMENT wants to make it legal to arrest and imprison someone indefinitely, even if they are not guilty of a crime. Rather for the *possibility* of *future* crimes. It is ILLEGAL and IMMORAL. How it is even possible that a sitting American President can even suggest this so openly, shows just how far deep into the rabbit hole we as a nation have fallen into. How is it that ANYONE is ok with this?
Our entire legal system is based on the principle that we are innocent UNTIL proven guilty. The burden is upon The State to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that we are guilty. This exists for our protection, not mere convenience. What has happened to the mere concept of, RIGHTS in this country? What do we have now? We are ALL GUILTY until the state “feels” we are not longer a threat?.
As stated by Pres. Obama, ” There may be a number of people who cannot be prosecuted for past crimes, in some cases because evidence may be tainted, but who nonetheless pose a threat to the United States “ Well then Mr. President, YOU have failed as a leader and the Department of Justice has FAILED to do their job as officers of the law!! Your failure or unwillingness to uphold The Constitution while executing your duty as President doesn’t give you permission to simply circumvent our laws and ignore our entire judicial process.
In case that wasn’t disturbing enough, President Obama went further, “Going forward my administration will work with Congress to *develop* an appropiate *legal regime* so that our efforts are consistent with our values and constitution” Aside from the obvious oxymoron in this statement, what does it all mean? Our government will simply create a new legal system where it will make it legal to incarcerate people for years without charges and due-process. A *Legal Regime*, not, our courts, not our judicial system, no. We shall have a new, *Legal Regime*
